Students Helping Students in Haiti
Here's the Deal

VIDEO NOT WORKING PROPERLY? WATCH HERE.

It costs only $200 for one student in Haiti to go to school for an entire year. That small amount of money covers teachers’ salaries, school supplies, uniforms, and three meals per week.

I’ve had the amazing opportunity to take a couple trips to Haiti, once before the earthquake, and once after. And let me tell you something, the earthquake didn’t change much in Haiti. Yeah, it destroyed thousands of buildings, and tragically killed over 200,000 people, but life for the rest of the people in Haiti goes on, much like it did before the quake: without food, clean water, and without education.

While we can’t help everyone in Haiti, I’ve decided that I can help 100 Haitian kids by starting a school in a tiny village called Guitton. I’ve been to Guitton, I’ve seen the mud huts and the families that live in them. I’ve seen the skinny, starving kids who have never been given an opportunity to go to school. It’s a real place, and these are real kids, and we can really help them.

My goal is to send 100 of these needy Haitian kids to school, kids who will otherwise never have a chance to go to school.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: I’m too young, how could I really help?

Answer: There was a kid in the Bible who had five loaves of bread and two fish in his hands. He gave what he had to Jesus, and Jesus multiplied the bread and fish to feed thousands of people. What if that kid never gave Jesus his five loaves and two fish? God can use anything that you give him, even if you think it’s not much.

Question: What if I try but can’t raise $200?
Answer: Keep trying! And know that even the smallest amount still helps!

Question: Do you have any ideas for how to raise $200?
Answer: Sure! When you sign up to participate, you will receive an email with a few ideas and sample letters to mail out to friends and relatives.

Question: Where will the money I raise be going?
Answer: I have partnered with a non-profit organization called SMI HAITI (www.smihaiti.org). SMI and its missionaries on the ground in Guitton will be ready to start the school once the $20,000 has been raised.

Question: I’ve raised my money, where should I send it?
Answer: When you have raised your $200 (or more!), you can put it all (cash and/or checks) into an envelope and mail it to:

Question: Who should checks be made payable to?
Answer: SMI Haiti/Guitton School

Question: Are large donations tax-deductable?
Answer: YES! The organization that I am partnering with is a 501c Non-Profit, so all donations are 100% tax-deductable. (ps. it's important to tell people this, they might just write a larger check!)

Question: I want to commit to raise $200 to send a student to school, do I have to sign up?
Answer: Awesome! Yep, sure do! When you sign up (above), you will be sent an important e-mail with all the important information about "Students Helping Students in Haiti". It will also be my way of keeping track of everyone who has committed to raising money for the school.
