Haiti Day 1 | Mass-Graves and Tent-Cities
May 1st, 2010

The flight from Miami to Port-Au-Prince, Haiti is less than 2 hours. Yet within that short amount of time, one crosses into a different world. A world at polar opposites from the world in which I know. Despite talk of recession, America is still one of the richest and powerful nations on the planet. Yet, just a short 2 hours away, Haiti sits as the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere.

I stepped off the plane in Haiti with 300 other people: American relief workers, church groups, and the rich Haitian elite. All 300 of us were tossed into a metal warehouse in the 110 degree humidity cramming our way through customs and scrambling for our luggage. A bus was outside waiting for us, but it sat about 200 yards down the main Haitian gravel highway. It is quite an event to push a luggage cart over a gravel road, with hundreds of Haitians begging for food and money and trying to carry your bags for you, in desperate hopes that you might give them a dollar.

The bus ride from Port-Au-Prince is a short 35 miles, yet somehow it takes close to 2 hours to traverse the pot-holes and the masses of people filling the streets. I had been to Haiti before the earthquake, and I couldn’t imagine how Haiti could get any worse. I didn’t know what to expect. On the drive, I didn’t see any destroyed buildings; didn’t see anything that I had seen on CNN. But what I did see broke my heart: thousands of tents made of scrap wood and blue tarps, now housing nearly 500,000 people. You’d be driving and all of a sudden come across a “tent-city”.

Each tent-city housed thousands of Haitians who were displaced after the earthquake as they fled the destruction in Port-Au-Prince. I couldn’t even count on my fingers and toes how many “tent-cities” I saw. Imagine your entire family living in a make-shift tent. What if my family had to sleep on the rocky soil, inside a tarp, in the blazing heat that encapsulates Haiti year-round? That is no way to live; it’s inhumane, really. But what else can they do? And, what happens when the first storm comes through, as it surely will within the next few months? And heaven forbid, what happens to those tent-cities during the first hurricane? Devastation, again.

As we almost reached the compound, we passed a huge cross on the hillside, signifying the burial of hundreds of thousands of bodies in a mass grave. You can see the piles of dirt which cover thousands of innocent people, who’s bodies were thrown into a dump-truck and emptied into a huge hole in the ground. Bodies treated as rubble, as garbage. Imagine, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, and close friends, just thrown into a hole like a piece of garbage.

As the sun was setting, we got closer to our tiny village called Guiton, where our mission compound sits. Our Haitian friends who picked us up from the airport told us that we had to take a different road to get there. Apparently, 3 days before, there was a man murdered along the normal road we drive, about 2 miles from our compound. So they didn’t want a bus load of “rich, white, Americans” driving through there at night. Needless to say, it was a little difficult to close my eyes and fall asleep that first night, knowing the violence that has escalated since the earthquake.

Tim’s Going to HAITI
April 10th, 2010

Hey friends! Tim here.

So I’m going to Haiti from April 19-29. This will be my second trip there, but my first one post-earthquake. I had gone with Josh and a mission group called Sundouloi ministries back in August, and I’ve been wanting to go back ever since.

Haiti is a country that needs help. Physical and spiritual help. Haiti needed help for a long time. Long before the earthquake struck, which killed over 200,000 people instantly.

God has created a big place in my heart and has filled it with the people of Haiti. No only does Haiti not have physical essentials to life, like clean water, food, and medicine, but Haiti also does not have Jesus. I have a strong conviction to fight on Haiti’s behalf. There is a huge spiritual war waging in Haiti right now, as it has been for the past 200 years, when Haiti’s government dedicated its land and entire country to Satan (this is no lie, look it up in history books).

The truth is, I want to live my life and die knowing that I fought for Haiti, fought for Haiti’s redemption from the grip of the devil, fought for the sake of the Kingdom of God. Jesus said in Matthew to “seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

I ask that you pray for this trip and for the team I’m going with. But don’t pray for safety, pray that God’s Kingdom would be advanced. Sometimes, following Jesus is not safe, and I’m okay with that. Thanks for your support in prayer.

Grace and peace,
Tim

SUMMER TOUR ANNOUNCED!
April 2nd, 2010

Well, the truth is, it’s not a tour at all, considering we won’t be traveling anywhere the whole summer…but, we will be playing at Mount Hermon’s Ponderosa Lodge in Santa Cruz, California ALL SUMMER LONG!!!

It’s going to be amazing! We are sooo honored and blessed to even be considered to be the band at such an amazing and God-filled camp.

Here’s how it works: There will be a fresh batch of middle/high schoolers each week for the entire summer and will we end up leading worship twice a day, 6 days of the week. The camp itself is basically on the beach, which, well, is amazing. Basically, we just can’t wait to start!

The other cool thing is that we will be having a FULL BAND (bass and drums…)! Which, as most of you know, is a rarity for M.Fill. It’s usually just Josh and I making the music. So this will be extra fun.

That is all, just wanted to fill you in on the summer plans.

Grace and Peace,
Tim

p.s. for all you FCC campers out there, we will miss you this summer, all the best!

New Album “Relentless” NOW AVAILABLE!
March 9th, 2010

We are so excited to be able to announce that our new album is now available for you to enjoy! Countless hours have gone into the making of “Relentless”, as well as gallons of blood, sweat, and tears…ok maybe not. But we are proud of how it all turned out. We just hope you like it…

This album was produced by Steve Wilson in Nashville. Steve is a Grammy-nominated producer (for his producing roles on Leeland’s “Love is on the Move”) and has produced some very talented artists like Leeland, Hawk Nelson, Jonny Diaz, and Matt Wertz, to name a few. We could not be more happy with how the project turned out!

The drums on the album were performed by Jeremy Lutito (Mat Kearney, Jars of Clay, Backstreet Boys).
The album was mastered by Richard Dodd (Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, etc).

SO, have a listen, maybe browse our STORE and pick yourself up a copy!

Also, check out our new website design and let us know what you think!

We ALWAYS love hearing from YOU! Write us a note HERE.

Nov. 13-14, 2009
DAY 1-2

Hey friends! so our first day in the studio with Steve Wilson, its been awesome, so basically we’ve spent all day throwing our songs at Steve, then he works his magic with the lyrics and stuff, in hopes of making each song the most catchiest song you’ve ever heard….well that’s the goal!!!! Studio Day 1 almost done!

DAY 3 – Drums
So today, we headed over to another studio here in Nashville to record drums for the record. We wanted to get a big, boomy sound for the drums, so this studio was a big room with high ceilings, which gave us exactly the sound we were after. We brought in Jeremy Lutito to play the drum-kit. Jeremy is the man, he was awesome. He is currently the drummer for Mat Kearney, but has a great track-record of playing with bands like Jars of Clay, Phil Wickam, and yes, even the Backstreet Boys! haha, but anyways it was a good day for sure.

DAY 4 – Bass guitar

Our producer, Steve, happens to be a bassist, which worked out great for him to lay down all the bass tracks. One of our engineers, Kyle, also is a bassist, so he shreded some bass lines also. So basically, each bass track for each song is a combination of both Steve and Kyle throughout the whole song.

DAY 5 – Acoustic guitar
Today was fun, because the songs are starting to take shape. Adding the acoustic was sweet, it took a long time, but I’m pretty happy with what we got! We also had a visit in the studio from our friend Jonny Diaz, who’s #1 song “More Beautiful You” was also produced by Steve.

November 18, 2009
DAY 6 – Lead Vocals
Vocals is definitely the most important part of the song. They are what the whole song revolves around, so needless to say, they have to be good…not perfect, but good. Here we go!

DAY 7 – Electric Guitars

Today was Josh’s day! He and Steve have worked out all the electric guitar parts and layed them down! They sound pretty sweet if I do say so myself.

IN THE STUDIO! – Nashville, TN
November 12th, 2009

Meet Steve Wilson, our producer:

Steve is the man, basically. He’s a great producer and we are just honored to work with him. Having produced many major bands such as Hawk Nelson, Leeland, Matt Wertz, Jonny Diaz, etc., he definitely knows what he’s doing! I think he plays just about every instrument known to man, and not to mention, I’m pretty sure he has perfect pitch, it’s crazy. So it’s been a blast getting to work with him on this project. We’ve been loving every second of our 14-hour days in the studio and can’t wait for you to hear it!

We went to Haiti!
August 10th, 2009

August 3-9, 2009

Pictures from our trip to Haiti.

So I, Tim, was asked to write a testimony about my experience in Haiti for a newsletter, so I wanted to share it with you as well:

“Growing up in California, I have taken about a dozen week-long mission trips to Baja Mexico. I’ll always remember being so amazed to see the Mexican people living in absolute dire circumstances, yet seemingly happy and content to be alive. So, going to Haiti for the first time, Baja was really the only place I could compare it to in my mind. But as soon as I stepped off the plane in Port-au-Prince, I knew this was going to be different. As we drove our busload down the crowded, yet seemingly lawless highway, I admittedly was introduced to utter desperation.

Desperation: that is really the only word I can think of to describe Haiti, according to my experience this past August. Throughout the week, as we interacted with the children and adults in the village of Guitton, their faces said something very different from the joyful faces I’ve seen in Mexico. I soon learned that there are no jobs for the majority of the population of Haiti; since there are no jobs, there is no money to buy food or clean drinking water. This just doesn’t make any sense to me. Here I live, in a country with unlimited amounts of resources with more of anything that anyone truly needs; yet, I can hop on a plane in Miami, and 2 hours later, arrive in a land at the polar opposite. Something needs to change.

My heart has broken for the beloved people of Haiti. I saw children of God who have been oppressed by corrupt governments, infertile land, and the grasp of Satan for the past two-hundred years. But something deep inside me believes that God is not finished with Haiti. I believe He wants to set His people free, both physically and spiritually. And that has ignited a spark deep within me. I don’t believe it to be coincidental to have crossed paths with Frank and Sundouloi Ministries. God has allowed me to catch the vision for Haiti and I hope to play a small part in it, Lord willing. Greater things are yet to come for Haiti.”

Update from the Road…Birmingham
July 20th, 2009

Hello everyone, we had a long week last week. I got sick and had to lay low for a week. Thank you for all of you who were praying, it was evident that God had His hand over me. He provided a place for me to rest and heal for an entire week.

I am excited to be back and see what God has in store for Birmingham Camp. We are also preparing for our trip to Haiti during the first week of August. We would love for you to partner with us and be a part of what God is going to do there. We need prayer for our energy and strength, that we would be able to endure whatever is asked of us down there with intense heat. That God would move in a powerful and real way in the hearts of many people.

We are excited about this journey and can’t wait to share with all of you the mighty things that God does during the week of our trip. Thank you for your support.

Josh

Update from the Road…Dallas
June 15th, 2009

Dallas, TX

Yo what’s up my friends! So we just made it up to Dallas on Saturday from San Antonio. So, we had Sunday completely free, so we decided to go to church in the morning, and then we went exploring dowtown Dallas. So right when we got there, we drove right by the place where JFK was shot back in the 60’s, which was pretty crazy to see. One thing I love about traveling like this is that we’ve been able to see places in this country that we’ve only read about in books; so seeing that in person was pretty sweet. So then we spent the next 45 mins driving around looking for some sort of non-sketchy parking. But then, in our search, we happened across this massive street festival, so of course we had to go check it out. There was live music and booths everywhere just packing the streets, it was sweet. We spent probably 3 hours out there in 105 degree Dallas weather, but it was awesome.

So I’d say it was a pretty good day.

So, today, another camp starts and we are itching for it, it’s gonna be great and God is going to do some even greater things, He hasn’t let us down.

-Tim

The trip is going well. Like Tim said, Sunday afternoon we took a trip to Dallas and saw the city. There was a huge art festival going on and we saw amazing art of all kinds. My favorite piece of art was photography capturing a beach. The creation that God creates is amazing, and then people can capture it and just be amazed at it. God has created sights that we have never seen before. He is a huge God.

Isaiah 40:26, “ Lift up your eyes on high, And see who has created these stars, The One who leads forth their host by number, He calls them all by name; Because of the greatness of His might and the strength of His power, not one of them is missing.”
