THE SHORT STORY
This whole thing started with just two of us when we met at college in Palm Beach, FL in 2005. A southern boy named Josh, and myself, a California kid named Tim. We started playing music in each other's dorm rooms, putting on concerts for anyone who would listen.
One thing led the next, and before we knew it, we found ourselves in Chicago recording our first album in 2007.
For the next two years, we traveled back-and-forth and all-around this beautiful country of ours, playing music and leading worship at all sorts of youth groups, schools, churches, camps, retreats and everything in-between, oh, and eating a lot of Chic-fil-A and sleeping on a lot of stranger's couches.
In November of 2009, we recorded our second album in Nashville with Producer Steve Wilson (Leeland, Hawk Nelson, Jonny Diaz).
Before the summer of 2010, Josh needed to take some time-off from M.fill for a while (see "longer" story for details). So, it was at that time that 3 new band members joined M.Fill: Danny (Drums), Eric (Bass), and Blake (Electric Guitar). Now it's the four of us, until Lord-willing, Josh will re-join the M.Fillmore force once again.
Thus, the short story of M.Fillmore.
THE LONG STORY (For those who like to read...)
Hey, my name is Tim, and this is the LONGER story of M.Fillmore:
The year is 2005 in my hometown of San Francisco, CA. I grab my high school diploma, hop in my car, and drive 56 hours straight to Palm Beach Atlantic University, in Palm Beach, Florida.
So it’s the first day of school and I’m eating in the cafeteria. In walks this country boy from Virginia and says, “Hey y’all, my name’s Josh, y’all, can I eat my supper with yall?” I say “Sure, want to start a band called M.Fillmore, tour the world, and play music for the rest of our lives?” He says, “…OK”
So after probably millions of sold-out private dorm room concerts, we get a call from a producer in Chicago named John Krenger. He says, “Hey M.Fillmore, want to come to Chicago and record a album?” We say, “…of course we do!”
So in September of 2007, Josh and I say “peace out Florida” and drive to Chicago to record our first album. But before we get there, we pick up two of our buddies to help us out in the studio. Ryan, who plays the drums, and Paul, who plays just about every instrument ever. We finish the album and call it “Miss Beautiful”, and no, it’s not about any of our girlfriends.
(A few months go by…)
We get a call from a man named Cary Coleman, president of an organization called The Fellowship of Christian Cheerleaders, or FCC. And in January 2008, Josh and I find ourselves in Orlando, FL onstage leading worship in front of 1,200 screaming high school cheerleaders at their National Christian Cheerleading Competition.
So one thing leads to another, and the following summer we drive a total of 10,000 miles in Josh’s 1996 sweet beige Honda Accord and lead worship at FCC’s camps all across the country for even more screaming, high-school cheerleaders.
So it’s the end of the summer, 2008, and Josh and I decide it’s time for M.Fillmore to hit the road full-time. So we load up with a few guitars, some M.Fillmore CD’s, and a whole lot of M.Fillmore T-Shirts, and call it home for the next twelve months. We accumulate nearly 40,000 miles during 3 separate nationwide tours, performing and leading worship at churches, youth groups, schools, camps, retreats, and fundraisers anywhere from Washington DC, to San Antonio, Texas, from St. Louis, Missouri to Miami, Florida, and anywhere in between.
So now it’s the end of the summer in 2009, and Josh and I feel like it’s a great time to record some brand new tunes.
We call a producer in Nashville named Steve Wilson, who has produced other pretty cool bands like Leeland, Hawk Nelson, Jonny Diaz, and Matt Wertz, so we feel like he’s the perfect guy for the job.
So, in November 2009, we fly to Nashville, and record five new, smashin hits with Steve.
We toured a little more, and then in the summer of 2010, God changed things up on us a bit. Josh, who is a member of the Coast Guard Reserves, was called to serve our country by helping clean up the Gulf oil spill emergency.
Now with Josh temporarily out of the M.fill line-up, I felt a little like Simon without Garfunkel, or like peanut butter without jelly. But we both know that God is in control and is never surprised by anything. So, it was at that time that I was joined by 3 new band members: Danny (Drums), Eric (Bass), and Blake (Electric Guitar). Now it's the four of us, until Lord-willing, Josh will re-join the M.Fillmore force once again.
Now, here we are in 2010, ready to hit the road with our new album and to see where on earth the Lord takes us next…
Thus, the longer story of M.Fillmore. Thanks for listening.
